This spectacular 10 days/9 nights cruise through the stunning Buccaneer Archipelago, departs by boat from either the township of Derby or the beautiful wilderness resort of Cape Leveque.
For cruises that depart from Derby, all passengers in Broome will be transferred to Derby by bus on the morning of departure. Passengers in Derby will be picked up on the way to Derby Jetty where Discovery One will be waiting. At the conlusion of the cruise, passengers will disembark at Cape Leveque and be flown back to Broome or Derby via a scenic light air flight.
For cruises that depart from Cape Leveque, passengers in Broome and Derby will be taken to the airport for a scenic light air flight to Cape Leveque. At the conclusion of the cruise, Discovery One will return to Derby, where passengers will be transferred back to their accommodation in Derby or Broome.
Please note: The following itinerary is an example of a cruise that departs from Derby. Cruises that depart from Cape Leveque are the same, but in reverse.
Day 1
Your cruise departs from Derby where you are welcomed on board with a drink and a smile from the crew as you begin your travels into the heart of the Buccaneer Archipelago. Settle into your cabin on our comfortable 82ft vessel ‘Discovery One’ and then enjoy dinner on deck when we anchor at the top of King Sound for the night.
Day 2
This morning we visit Crocodile Creek where we take a refreshing swim in the stunning fresh water falls and rock pools. Back onboard, take a close look at Cockatoo Island and its Iron Ore mine, and then relax over lunch on the deck while we cruise north. Enjoy some sundowners and unwind in your surroundings as we anchor at Raft point for the evening.
Day 3
Wake up to the majestic red cliffs of Raft Point, home to ancient indigenous Wandjina paintings. This morning we take a scenic walk to the caves, where you will take in the spectacular views over Doubtful Bay and Steep Island, and learn about the Wandjina people who once inhabited this land. This afternoon we arrive at Langgi where we enjoy a swim in the clear water and view the striking rock formations that nature has carved over time. Tonight we anchor in Deception Bay where we invite you to enjoy your magnificent surroundings as a delicious dinner is served to you on the deck of Discovery One.
Day 4
Make yourself comfortable and enjoy the remarkable views as we continue north. Keep an eye out for the magnificent Humpback Whales who come here to give birth and mate through the cooler months before returning to the Antarctic in summer. This morning you enjoy the fresh water pools and falls at beautiful Samson Inlet before continuing on past Australia’s largest pearl farm, Kuri Bay. Operated by the Paspaley group, Kuri Bay was the first pearl farm established in Western Australia. Enjoy the view as we cruise through St George Basin, where we are welcomed by Mt Trafalgar and Mt Wellington, named by Philip Parker King during his explorations. This afternoon we stop to take a walk through this wondrous land and explore some of the native flora and fauna, before anchoring for the night at the mouth of the Prince Regent River.
Day 5
Get your cameras ready as we experience some spectacular scenery on our journey down the Prince Regent River. It’s time for some crocodile spotting! See how many you can count as we travel up Camp Creek to witness the soothing waterfalls and striking gorges. Welcoming us are Mt Trafalgar and Mt Wellington, named by P.P. King in 1820. Our next stop is the majestic King Cascade Falls. This spectacular site is where American model, Ginger Meadows, was fatally attacked by a crocodile in 1987.
Day 6
Today we visit the pristine sands of Hanover Beach. It is here, in 1838, where Lt. George Grey unloaded his Timor ponies and began the first land based expedition of North West Australia. He reported back positively, describing the area as ‘lush and fertile’, which encouraged a group of optimistic farmers to establish a new settlement here in 1864. The historic landmark ‘Camden Sound’ is our next destination. Here we visit the 19th century ruins of a settlement that lasted less than two years, and appreciate the harsh conditions they lived with. We also call in to Sheep Island and visit the graves of these tough pioneers.
Day 7
Depending on the tides, we will stop at the picturesque Ruby Falls and enjoy a swim before continuing south to explore the 400 square km’s of Montgomery Reef! As the tide quickly drops away, watch this mammoth reef appear, exposing thousands of spectacular waterfalls and an abundance of sea life! This is a unique sight few ever get to see.
Day 8
Prepare yourselves for an exciting afternoon as we make our way to Talbot Bay, home of the Horizontal Falls, where you will experience a thrilling jet boat ride around the Falls and Cyclone Creek. You will marvel at the incredible marine life, including the impressive Tawny Nurse sharks that come to greet Discovery One.
Day 9
After breakfast we depart Talbot Bay and go on an excursion to ‘Squatters Arms’ to meet a unique couple who have made their home in this timeless land. Indulge in a fresh water swim in their tank fed by a natural spring, then wander through their lush garden with spectacular views. This is one of the most enjoyable stops you will experience and, after a BBQ lunch, you have time to shop for locally made jewellery.
Day 10
On our last morning we make our way to the bright white sands of Silica Beach. Relax on the pure silica sand or take a walk. This is a photographers’ paradise. Back onboard, relax on the top deck and soak up the 360 degree views as we enjoy the final stretch of this magnificent area. Around midday we arrive back at Cape Léveque where we bid you farewell. You will enjoy a scenic flight back to Broome or Derby where you will be transferred back to your accommodation, taking with you memories to last a lifetime.
