This cruise offers a scenic flight from Broome or Derby to Cape Leveque on either the outward or inward leg of your journey, with the boat either leaving from or returning to Derby, depending on the date of the cruise. Broome passengers will be flown from or to Derby, as the case may be. The following itinerary shows the cruise starting at Cape Leveque.
Day 1
After picking you up from your accommodation, you will fly by light aircraft from Broome or Derby to Cape Leveque, where you begin your adventure on the cruise of a lifetime! We let you explore this stunning place for a short time, before greeting you on board “Discovery One” with a welcoming drink. As you settle into our comfortable 82ft vessel, we cruise across King Sound to the picturesque Myridi Bay.
Day 2
This morning we visit Crocodile Creek where we take a refreshing swim in the stunning fresh water falls and rock pools. Back onboard, take a close look at Cockatoo Island and its Iron Ore mine, and then relax over lunch on the deck while we cruise north. Enjoy some sundowners and unwind in your surroundings as we anchor at Doubtful Bay for the evening.
Day 3
Watch the landscape change as we head north and explore the 400 square km’s of Montgomery Reef! This huge reef becomes exposed as the tides fall, creating a visual spectacle of waterfalls and sea life. This is an exceptional site only few get to see. We then head north to discover the beauty of Langgi. Here you will view the striking colours and shapes of the rock formations that nature has carved over millions of years. Enjoy a swim in the clear water before returning to Discovery One for a relaxing afternoon of cruising. We continue on to Raft Point, home to some ancient and well preserved aboriginal paintings. This afternoon we walk to the caves, where you will take in the breathtaking views over Doubtful Bay and Steep Island. Learn about the Wandjina people who once inhabited this land and witness the vivid sunset as we anchor here for the night.
Day 4
From Raft Point we cruise across Doubtful Bay to explore one of the Kimberley’s most picturesque big rivers, the SALE RIVER, which is one of the most stunning and beautiful estuaries you will see. As it winds its way through picture postcard narrow gorges with towering sandstone cliffs, this magical but unforgiving wilderness will captivate those who crave it, but its secrets are not easily revealed without some effort. We take you on an excursion upstream and disembark to walk amid an ancient patch of rich rainforest glades. Admire the cool surroundings and take a dip in the spring fed rainforest pools before returning to the vessel (an easy level walk). Next you will slowly cruise up Red Cone creek to enjoy a refreshing swim at the beautiful freshwater Ruby Falls. Walk up to the head of the creek and search for Aboriginal rock art and serene billabongs.
Day 5
As we head south, you may be lucky enough to spot some magnificent Humpback Whales who come here to give birth and mate through the cooler months before returning to the Antarctic in summer. Prepare yourselves for an exciting afternoon as we make our way to Talbot Bay, home of the Horizontal Falls. You will experience a thrilling jet boat ride through the Falls and Cyclone Creek and marvel at the incredible marine life, including the impressive Tawny Nurse sharks, that come to greet Discovery One.
Day 6
After breakfast we depart Talbot Bay and go on an excursion to ‘Squatters Arms’ to meet a unique couple who have made their home in this timeless land. Indulge in a fresh water swim in their tank fed by a natural spring, then wander through their lush garden with spectacular views. This is one of the most enjoyable stops you will experience and, after a BBQ lunch, you have time to shop for locally made jewellery.
Day 7
Next morning we make our way to the bright white sands of Silica Beach. Relax on the pure silica sand or take a walk. This is a photographers’ paradise. We then cruise amongst the many Islands as we make our way towards a sunset anchorage at one of the various inlets near the top end of King Sound
Day 8
Relax on the top deck and soak up the 360 degree views as we enjoy the final stretch of this magnificent archipelago. This afternoon we arrive back at Derby Jetty where we bid you farewell. You will take with you memories to last a lifetime. Passengers from Broome will enjoy a scenic flight back to their departure point, while Derby passengers will be transferred to their accommodation.
